Hi. Welcome back to My Jamaican Vignettes. This week I am sharing upcoming book releases on my radar and sharing the books currently on my NetGalley shelf in October 2022.

What’s Currently On My NetGalley Shelf – October 2022

I have five books on my NetGalley shelf in October 2022. It is a mix of romance and mystery novels and one that I am honestly not sure what genre it falls under because the NetGalley summary only shared information about the author (strange but more on that later).

I am grateful to the publishers who have granted me access to books again after I was away from the book reviewing online space for two years. It feels good to be back in this community and I look forward to reading and reviewing these book. So here are five soon to be released books on my radar in no particular order except for how the appear in my NetGalley shelf.

Missing Dead Girls By Sara Walters

Publication date: 28 February 2023

Publisher: Sourcebook Fire

Genre: Mystery Thriller

Goodreads Summary:

What is friendship without a few secrets?

It wasn’t Tillie’s choice to leave Philadelphia. But after everything that happened junior year, her mom insisted the quiet suburb of Willow Creek was the perfect place to get a fresh start, to put the trauma and rumors behind them.

Madison Frank is the perfect distraction. Beautiful, fun, and from the wealthy side of town, Madison is the kind of girl who has a pull stronger than gravity. She commands attention, even inspires obsession. And by the end of summer, Tillie’s forgotten everything—everyone—she left in Philadelphia. Almost.

Then Madison goes missing. A photo of her bloody body is texted to the whole student body…from an account with Tillie’s name on it. Tillie’s caught in a tangled web of secrets that will destroy her if they surface…and will destroy everyone she loves if they don’t.

She needs a man who can handle her busy life, get along with her big and boisterous family, and mesh with her tight-knit friends, including Nate, her childhood bestie.

While one guy is great on paper, and another sets off sparks, neither are Mr. Right. And her drive to find him begins to interfere with the things and people she values most. A Half-Baked Murder By Emily George

Publication date: 21 February 2023

Publisher: Kensington Cozies

Genre: Cosy Mystery

NetGalley Summary:

THE FIRST EVER (LEGAL) CANNABIS-THEMED COZY MYSTERY SERIES IS HERE!
Emily George launches a groundbreaking, irresistible new series unlike anything else out there, as twenty-eight-year-old California pastry chef Chloe Barnes takes her career higher, opening a cannabis café where she can use her Michelin-star skills to transform dry, bland pot brownies into gourmet treats. With a unique and culturally relevant hook, authentic fresh voice, and the classic tropes of the genre that all cozy fans love, everyone’s buzzing about the Cannabis Café Mysteries!

Formally trained pastry chef Chloe Barnes is opening a cannabis bakery. That’s not at all what the twenty-eight-year-old envisioned while living the dream in Paris with a hot fiancé and a Michelin star restaurant gig around the corner. But the rising “it girl” of choux puffs rethinks everything after a scathing food review and humiliating breakup make her long for home in sunny California. When her beloved grandmother falls ill, Chloe returns to quaint Azalea Bay to start over in the most satisfying way possible—concocting delicious edibles with her quirky Aunt Dawn.

Combining French luxury and THC, Baked by Chloe will take pot brownies to another level. That is, until a creepy past acquaintance rehashes old drama and shockingly turns up dead—landing Aunt Dawn as the number one murder suspect. Now, alongside her closest confidants, a stunned Chloe must alternate between budding entrepreneur and amateur sleuth to clear her aunt’s name, open the best bakery in town, and weed out the real culprit from a list of unsettling suspects!

Double The Lies By Patricia Raybon

Publication date: 7 February 2023

Publisher: Tyndale House Publishers

Genre: Historical mystery

Quick note: I selected this book on NetGalley based solely on the cover and I didn’t realise it was book two in a series until after I got approval from the publishers. Plus, I didn’t realise it was a religious themed book but I will read it and see what I think.

Goodreads summary:

In the second installment of Patricia Raybon’s critically acclaimed mystery series, amateur detective Annalee Spain races the clock to solve the murder of a handsome young pilot before she is framed for the crime–and before his dashing twin falls head over heels for her, tempting her promised heart.

On a cold spring night in 1924, Annalee Spain offers her new fancy lace handkerchief–a gift from her pastor boyfriend Jack Blake–to a young woman crying in a Denver public library. But later that night, when police find the handkerchief next to the body of the young woman’s murdered husband, Annalee becomes the number one suspect, and her panic doubles when she learns that Jack has gone missing.

With just days to solve the murder before the city’s Klan-run police frame her for the crime, Annalee finds herself hunting for clues in the Colorado mountain town of Estes Park. She questions the victim’s wife and her uncle, a wealthy Denver banker, at their mountain lodge, desperate for leads. Instead, she finds a household full of suspects and even more burning questions. Who keeps threatening her, why can’t she find Jack, and will a dangerous flirtation be her undoing? Her answers plumb the depths of the human heart, including her own, exploring long-buried secrets, family lies, even city politics–all of which could cost the young detective her fledgling love . . . and perhaps even her life.

Anatomy Of A Meet Cute By Addie Woolridge

Publication date: 7 March 2023

Publisher: Montlake

Genre: Romance??

Quick note: This book does not have a summary on Goodreads or on NetGalley and I believe it was a ‘Read Now’ book on NetGalley. This means I didn’t need the publisher’s approval to download. I chose this based on the title and the cover and I am assuming it is a romance novel or maybe chicklit.

Those are the five books currently on my NetGalley shelf. What new books are you most excited about? Did any of these books make it to your TBR?

Happy reading until next week.
