Birthday Countdown

Reading Time: 2 minutes

It’s Libra season and that means my birthday is right around the corner. It’s a quieter year this year and I’m feeling reflective.

I am trying to celebrate how far I’ve come while also being mindful of all my big scary dreams and everything I wanted this year that simply did not happen. There’s a strive for balance which I get is in true Libra ♎ form.

Birthday Reflections

My birthday is my own personal new year where I sit and consider where I am and where I hope to be. This year will also mark the last year of my 30s and I’m actually looking forward to being 40.

I’m also dusting off my “40 before 40” list that I made in 2024 when I just hit 37. A lot of things have changed.

So here are some of my birthday reflections as I head into 39. These are in no order of importance just some thoughts as I free write.

  1. The world is quickly shifting and I need to adapt and also be a little more flexible.
  2. Just because something is new or different or difficult doesn’t mean I can’t do it.
  3. I am allowed to enjoy what I have while striving to improve and attain more.
  4. Success and expansion does not have to be attained at the expense of love and relationships (I recommend you read Communion by bell hooks – I am currently reading it).
  5. I am allowed to change my mind. And I get to start over again and again.
  6. Betting on myself is never a bad idea.
  7. My mental health disorder will always be a part of my story but it isn’t my identity.
  8. It is OK to grief the life I thought I’d have while at the same time being happy and grateful for the life I have.
  9. I get to show up as my authentic self every day and that’s a blessing.
  10. I am the occasion and I can do things that spark joy in my life every single day.

Happy Libra season to all who celebrate birthdays this month. I wish we will all be happy, healthy, loved and cared for.

Also to my 1987 babies, we rock! Enjoy these last few months of our 30s but please don’t fear what’s ahead. It is a gift and a privilege to age.

  1. A 40 before 40 list is awesome, dont be too strict, have fun and be whimsical.

    1. Thanks Marsha-Gay. Yes to fun and whimsy.
