Welcome back to My Jamaican Vignettes, today we’re doing something a little different. It’s a vibe discussion of book vs the movie on The Perfect Find by Tia Williams.

This isn’t a review because I’m no film critic and I more enjoy the vibe and visuals of a movie than anything else. So let’s discuss the vibe of the book The Perfect Find by Tia Williams vs the 2023 Netflix film The Perfect Find.

The Book The Perfect Find by Tia Williams

I read The Perfect Find by Tia Williams in 2017. I rated it three-stars. Here’s my Goodreads review from then:

I loved this book. It was not what I expected. My first time reading anything outside Shake Your Beauty from Tia Williams and The Perfect Find was brilliant. Funny, sexy and quick read with lots of laugh out loud moments.

Now that’s an enthusiastic review from me. I called it brilliant. Now I can’t recall why it got three-stars and not four. And I don’t know if you guys remember Shake Your Beauty on Essence Magazine but I loved those columns by Tia Williams so when I saw that she had a book out I immediately wanted to read it. And I read it super fast within two to three days.

The Perfect Find Netflix Movie

I watched the Netflix movie The Perfect Find in two sittings and my first impression was that I loved the soundtrack.

I wished the movie was produced and released sooner, like 2018 or 2019 even 2020 because it felt like the premise was outdated and there was a level of discomfort with age gap that wasn’t there when I read the book.

The styles and visuals are gorgeous except for Jenna’s wig in the third act.

And as I said I enjoyed the music used the film. You can check out the Spotify playlist.

Final Thoughts

Read the book first then watch the movie. They are both fun to experience and there’s a cameo by Tia Williams in the movie. Watch it and let me know if you spotted her.
