Welcome back to My Jamaican Vignettes. This week I’m sharing my 2023 reading goals. I’ve already set my reading target in Goodreads and so far January has been an excellent reading month. I’ve completed six books already.

2023 Reading Goals on Goodreads

I’ve set my annual Goodreads goal to a manageable 36 books. That means I need to read three books each month. And I’m already in a good position as I write this I’ve read six books. And I’m also happy to report that the books I’ve read so far have all been above three-stars.

Read Jamaica Kincaid with Kiki

Jamaican Bookstagrammer Kiki (@ifthisisparadise) is hosting a year-long read along called #WeReadJamaicaKincaid and I’ve committed to joining that. The January book is Kincaid’s first published work the short story collection At The Bottom of the River. Each month is dedicated to a different book by Jamaica Kincaid. Some books will span two months.

I’ve already completed At The Bottom of the River. I listened to the audiobook on Scribd. I will give a review in my monthly wrap-up at the end of January. And if you’re interested you can join this reading challenge.

Book Riot’s Read Harder Challenge 2023

I’m doing it again. I am attempting the Read Harder Challenge 2023 by Book Riot. This year I have a strategy though. I will complete two prompts each month so I can complete the 24 reading prompts. And I’m on track. I’ve read three books towards this challenge already. A webcomic, a graphic novel and a poetry collection by a local author.

I plan on doing a six-month check-in to fill you in on my progress with the Read Harder Challenge 2023.

The main reason I like the Read Harder Challenge is that it pushes me to explore different genres and introduces me to new authors. Book Riot has a dedicated newsletter that sends out recommendations for books to cover each prompt so check that out if you are interested. It is still early in the year for you to join.
