MJV Bookish Thoughts: April 2025 Wrap-Up

We are back. I feel refreshed and ready to write and create without overthinking or overanalyzing. In April I read and loved two books. I rated them five and four and a half stars. Welcome back to My Jamaican Vignettes, it feels great to be back.
April 2025 Wrap-Up

Waiting For Friday Night (Book two in the Peachtree Cover series) by Synithia Williams got me out of a reading slump and I needed this small town romance. I read book one last year and I enjoyed it but I loved book two more. And oh my goodness was this book funny, like actual LOLs all around. I highly recommend the series. There are also short stories or novellas in between each primary work. And book three is already available so dive right in, you won’t regret it.

Can’t Get Enough (Skyland book three) by Kennedy Ryan is one of my most anticipated books of 2025. So you can imagine my excitement when I got that e-ARC approval from Edelweiss. I devoured this story. I love the friendships in these books and Hendricks and Maverick’s love story was fantastic. Five-stars.
This book will be released later this month and I fully intend to get a physical copy.
What I Have Been Watching
My Thursday staple is Found and I am watching season two on Max but for whatever reason there are weeks when there is no episode on the streaming service. I think we are nearing the end of the season and I will miss this.
Then A Discovery of Witches was recently added to Netflix and I have already finished season one. I read book one in the series years ago and I enjoyed it. I like the TV adaptation a lot.
What’s To Come For The Rest of May 2025
This little teaser is more of an accountability nudge for me than it is for you. But here is what I have planned for the rest of May 2025.
Next week, TV or movies that make me want to read the book/book series – inspired by a BookTok post I saw months ago, I had the idea swirling around but didn’t quite feel like drafting the post quite yet.
Later in the month, Beverly Jenkins author recommendation post. I am currently reading Captured (Le Veq Family Series book three) by Beverly Jenkins.
And it is a secret but I am launching my freelance editorial project management and copy-editing services in May, more on that near the end of the month.
Thanks for reading and see you next week.
I am letting go of perfectionism and I am letting go of the need to overthink what I share here.
Also, I soft launched a mental health advocacy/diary Substack – my intention is post something every Wednesday but I am blanking on what to write for Wednesday 30 April 2025.
Be well. Take care. See you next Sunday.
