Are you a makeup girlie or a skincare girlie?
For years I was neither. I was bare facing life without even a lick of moisturizer because I have oily/combination skin that is sensitive and eczema prone. Then at around Christmas 2022 I decided to start focusing on my skincare and I became a skincare girl. I have a whole morning and nightime routine that has around five or six steps that I do every single day.
But what if I also wanted to be a makeup girlie?
I do.
Learning How To Do A Basic Base Makeup Look in Your 30s
For the past year or maybe more, I have been acquiring basic makeup items: foundation, primers, CC creams, skin tints, eyeshadow, mascara and concealer and blushed. I got a simple and labelled makeup brush set online and that is what I use.
On the weekends and some mornings while I work from home, I will apply a light simple base and I find wears surprisingly well in the Kingston and St Andrew heat and humidity. I’ve also done my makeup for date nights and BBF dates and night’s out.
But I haven’t graduated to wearing makeup every day and I think that is where I want to end up.
Makeup Vs Skincare
Let’s tackle the makeup vs skincare debate.
A lot of makeup brands have reformulated or created new products with skincare nourishing ingredients so think hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and peptides. So you really don’t have to use either one. Experiment and don’t skip on drugstore and affordable brands either and jump right to high end makeup brands or designer products.
TikTok is a great resource for helping you figure out undertones, colour match etc. But also go to local pharmacies. Years ago beauty counters allowed you to try and test before you buy but I am sure what the current policies are.
But taking care of your skin and staying hydrating, eating nourishing foods will do wonders for your skin and make you makeup look better and feel better.
If you are in your mid-to-late 30s and want to play with makeup, do it! Have fun with it. There is no age limit and learning new skills is always fun and enhancing your beauty is a fantastic way to start your day.
