Beverly Jenkins Author Spotlight: Book Recommendations

Welcome back to My Jamaican Vignettes. I have a new favourite – Beverly Jenkins. Today I am shining the spotlight on her Le Veq Family series novels and sharing the e-books I have in my Kindle ready to read next in Jenkin’s catalogue.
My Beverly Jenkins Introduction
I read my first Beverly Jenkins novel in summer 2019 and I did not like it. I read Forbidden (Old West book one) and I wasn’t a fan of the lead male character and I have mixed feelings about passing as well as US history so at the time I rated the book three-stars. Now, a three-star rating isn’t bad it just meant I didn’t love the characters or the romance as much I typically do.
But I kept on hearing great things about Beverly Jenkins and whenever there was an e-book sale via BookBub and her books were available I would get them, so I had a few.
Fast forward to 2024 and I read and loved Rebel (Women Who Dare book one) and technically the Le Veq Family book four and I loved the romance. I loved the history, I enjoyed how Jenkins weaved African American history and the period of post-American Civil War with romance, heat and drama. And I fell in love with the men of the Le Veq Family.
The Le Veq Family Series
There are three novels in the original Le Veq Family series which centres around the men of a wealthy New Orleans family with roots in piracy and ties to the French Caribbean and Cuba. The first book is Through the Storm and I rated that four stars. I enjoyed the romance between Sable and Raimond but quickly realized that while the series is named for the Le Veq men, it is the woman that these men fall in love with that are really the shining stars of the stories. These women are tough, resourceful, brave and strong.
Book two is Winds of the Storm and on Goodreads I rated it four-stars, I think on the StoryGraph it may have been a 4.5. But the story I loved the most from the series is book three, Captured which is set in the period of slavery and I adored privateer Dominic and Clare who was enslaved. I rated this book five-stars.
Overall, I highly recommend the series and recommend that you could in fact start with Captured if you want to read it in chronological order instead of publication order. Whatever order you choose, if love historical romance, read Beverly Jenkins and the Le Veq Family is a great place to start.
What I Plan To Read Next By Beverly Jenkins
As I said, I have been buying Beverly Jenkins e-books for a while now. These are books I hope to get to soon. Please note I said soon, these aren’t on a June TBR because I am officially in my mood reader era and I no longer plan what to read to next.
But these books are on my Kindle ready to go whenever the mood strikes me:
To Catch A Raven (Women Who Dare book three).
Indigo
The Taming of Jessi Rose
Midnight
Belle
Before The Dawn
Now, I decided that 2025 will be the year I buy more physical books, my tiny bookshelf is overflowing (I need to invest in a larger unit) but I decided that I wanted to own the books I love rather than licensing the e-books from Amazon.
So if I love a series or a book as much as the Le Veq series I will buy the paperback. Writing this post, I realize that I need to buy Rebel so that my Le Veq Family series is complete.
Have you read anything by Beverly Jenkins? What book is your favourite or most recommended?
And if this is your introduction, I hope you read a Beverly Jenkins book this year.
Thanks for reading and see you next week.
